Help your child become a confident reader with Workbook 2 from our structured dyslexia-friendly reading programme, designed for struggling readers and their parents/carers.
Workbook 2 is the second book in the Reading Skills series and has been carefully designed for children aged 5–11 who need foundational reading support.
Whether your child has a diagnosis of dyslexia, you think they may be dyslexic, or they just need a little extra support, this programme will help to rebuild the foundations of reading in bite-size lessons.
Created by a qualified teacher and specialist dyslexia tutor, we combined multisensory phonics, structured literacy and confidence building activities to help your child develop strong reading skills at their own pace.
Every lesson is created to feel achievable, supportive and motivating.
About Picture Progress
Many children who struggle with reading aren’t lacking ability, they just haven’t been taught using a method that supports their learning needs.
As a teacher, I see how quickly confidence can disappear when the right support just isn’t there. Many of the home learning resources move too quickly, assume knowledge children don’t yet have, or make learners feel embarrassed about needing extra help.
We created these workbooks to change that.
Every activity is designed to build reading skills step by step, while also protecting a child’s confidence along the way.
The aim is to help children feel success, rebuild trust in their ability, and start to see themselves as readers again.
What reading skills will my child learn with this dyslexia workbook?
Across 20 carefully structured lessons, your child will practise blending 35 essential phonics sounds in words like 'beat', 'cone' and 'quail'. They will also learn to fluently read 20 high-frequency sight words, such as 'are', 'you' and 'we'.
We’ll introduce each concept gradually, so they’ll never be asked to read words containing sounds they haven’t been taught. This approach helps with skill building, preventing overwhelm.
The programme provides multiple opportunities to practise and reinforce new sounds, helping children improve decoding, fluency and reading confidence.
Each workbook also includes checkpoints so parents can easily track progress and celebrate achievements along the way.
Can parents use these phonics workbooks at home without teaching experience?
Absolutely! The workbooks are designed to help parents provide reading intervention at home, even without a background in teaching.
Each activity includes clear instructions, and a pronunciation guide to explain key phonics sounds.
Audio support is also available to demonstrate correct pronunciation and help you introduce the sounds or key terms to your child, confidently.
What makes this multisensory phonics programme different from other reading books?
The programme was developed with older struggling readers and children with dyslexia in mind.
The workbooks are built on an evidence-based teaching method that develops a child’s mental imagery — a powerful tool for improving reading skills. We call it the Picturing Method.
It teaches the actual skill of remembering and recognising letters and sounds, leading to better accuracy, increased confidence, and lasting progress.
Most phonics resources exist only for very young children. For older learners, these materials can feel discouraging or “babyish”, which damages a child’s confidence.
What’s more, these resources are designed with a deep understanding of how a child’s emotions impact their learning.
Early activities are low-threat, with plenty of early wins to help build motivation.
Many tasks are gamified to keep engagement high and make learning feel like play.
Is this the right dyslexia reading programme for my child?
The Reading Skills series is an ideal starting point for any child who needs reading support.
It’s particularly helpful for:
• children aged 5–11 who are struggling with reading
• children with diagnosed or suspected dyslexia
• children who have tried phonics before, but made little progress
• parents looking for a structured literacy programme at home
Workbook 2 is the second in the Reading Skills series and is an affordable alternative to dyslexia tutoring, especially when specialist support is difficult to access locally.
Is this workbook a digital download or physical book?
Workbook 2 is a physical workbook and comes with 40 colourful stickers, delivered to your home.
Physical materials are important when supporting children in learning, as writing, drawing and interacting with printed pages can strengthen learning and help children stay engaged without distraction.

Reviews
So glad we got this workbook (and the next one). My son has really enjoyed doing the activities and putting the stickers on at the end. We’re only in unit 2 so far but seen great progress already, he is getting much better at reading tricky words and enjoys doing the learning games alongside it. We’re excited to see what his reading will look like when we get to the end of this one!
Bit tricky at the start to understand all the activities but so worth it as the method really works.
